Leaving for Arizona

On my way to SEAZ for 9 days of birding, heatstroke, scorpions, beans, tents, sand, snakes, pavement, cacti, sleepiness, and margaritas.  Will be tweeting as I go at @thebirdist.  Talk to you soon.

The Birdist on Attu

Birdist contributor, Maine birder extraordinaire and all-around good guy Doug Hitchcox has managed to get himself to Attu, that most sacred of American birding locations.  If you can manage to contain your jealousy, follow the exploits of Doug and his compatriots at The Z Bird Birding Blog

When he returns, I am insisting that Doug post his certain-to-be-fantastic photos and trip reports here, so stay tuned.

Lights Out DC

Just wanted to pass along a Huffington Post story and the website for Lights Out DC, a group in this city that helps catalog the birds that collide with buildings.  The number of birds that die each year in building collisions is estimate between 100 million and 1 billion (!!!!!), and so what these guys are doing is incredibly important.

Pass it on.
